When we were kids, our parents asked us to wish for the things we want and the Santa Claus will gift us the same. On the day of Christmas we use to find those gifts below our pillows.
He comes in the night! He comes in the night!
He softly, silently comes;
While the little brown heads on the pillows so white
Are dreaming of bugles and drums.
When we were grown up we found that our Santa’s are our parents only. So we also carried that tradition forward with our next generation.
This year on Christmas beside being Santa to our children many of us have volunteered to perform the act of Santa Claus in our neighborhood also by donating old cloths, used beddings and toys from our households to poor and needy. Just to convey this thought, I had written few lines which I 'll like to share:
ठिठुरता बच्चा जब फुटपाथ पे,
फटे-पुराने पैबंद लगे लिहाफ में,
सरसराती सर्द रात बिताता,
जाकर कंबल से उसको ढ़कता,
कुछ खिलौने और कपड़े भी देता,
काश! मैं भी सेंटा होता .....
भूखी बच्ची सो जाती जब रोते-रोते,
माँ-बाप की गरीबी यूँ हीं ढ़ोते-ढ़ोते,
बचपन जिसका कुहासे में खो जाता,
पोछ्ता आँसू तब उसके, कुछ खिलाता,
खुशियों के ढ़ेर सारे उपहार लुटाता,
काश! मैं भी सेंटा होता .....
माना घर में अपने खुशहाली है,
निकले बाहर तो देखा बदहाली है,
कई चौराहे अब भी भूखे हैं,
जहाँ बच्चे खाली पेट सोते हैं....
उनकी भी तरफ आज नजर घुमायें,
आस-पास के दुख दर्द को दूर भगायें,
क्रिसमस के दिन औरों के भी अंधेरे मिटायें,
एक दिन को ही सही, हम भी सेंटा बन जायें ....
